Whether at the races for fun or for competition it’s always great to be riding with buddies.

The 2013 Ontario Off-road riding season is soon upon us and personally I cannot wait! An opportunity to share good times with friends, ride a new trail and become one with the bike. I am also looking forward to riding the trails with my camera gear in tow searching for those perfect action shots. I have many plans this summer and,  hopefully, some good news to share in a few weeks. In the meantime, Cecile Gambin Photography will be out in full force this season at most of the off road and cycling events throughout our great province. So, don’t forget to ham it up when you see my lens and say ‘hello’!

Homage to Ice 2012

The 2012 race season has begun with the annual, and unpredictable, ‘Homage 2 Ice’ event. Unpredictable only because of Mother Nature. This early season race has seen snowy fields and icy trails in the past but despite the call for steady rain the trails were hard packed and dustless. Perfect to test winter legs and hone rusty technical skills.

Dan Marshall of Substance Projects executed a flawless event. Listening to riders, Dan put together a seamless 25 km loop with the right amount of climbing and lots of fun, flowy singletrack. Held at the Mansfield Outdoor Centre, Dan had two events to choose from: a 25 km and double your fun with the 50 km option. ‘Substance Projects’ even had a race for kids. Taking home the gold, Liam was visibly knackered after a hard fought race on trails specially built for little cruisers. His little legs rocked that bike!

Kudos to Dan and his tireless crew for hosting a great event complete with über cool music and a burgers on the barbie. Congratulations are also extended for all the participants for a race well done. It was great to see everyone and seeing everyone ride with smiles on their faces made me miss riding myself.

Check out my entire photo album – just click on the Gallery tab and hit ‘For Riders’. My new website is now up and running and viewing event photos (yes…they are all now on my website and not somewhere else) and making purchases have just become easier.

Thanks for stopping by and looking. Check out this and other great cycling stories and pics on Ontario’s own ‘Riding Feels Good’ website.

Homage to Ice

Substance Project ran a great event called ‘Homage to Ice’ April 2, 2011 and it couldn’t have been more appropriately named! Great conditions made for great pictures and great riding. Lots and lots of snow and ice! There were two races – a 25km and a 50km.

Luckily it wasn’t too windy but was a wee bit cool (for me) in the morning. However, that also meant for easier riding as the wheels weren’t sinking in the deep snow. As for the later race (50km) they had a much harder time as the sun began melting the snow which left deep ruts that made for lots of hard pedalling and uncontrollable lines.

Taking pictures was equally as challenging as the sun kept popping in and out of the clouds. The morning was sunny and I didn’t need strobes as the snow acted as a perfect reflector dish which illuminated my subjects faces quite nicely. However, there were nasty shadows in the trails. So I stayed out of the trails until the sun hid for a hour or so. During that time, I went into the trails and used either one or two strobes pending on the lighting conditions.

By the end of the fourth hour my feet were throughly wet and by now numb. I took over 500+ pictures and have uploaded them onto my Flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cecilegambin/. If you are interested in purchasing a picture please contact me via Flickr or through this website for details and pricing. Thanks for looking!!
