the 2013 ojibway Club annual art show at Pointe-au-Baril

© Cecile Gambin PhotographyThe 2013 Ojibway Art Show is on this weekend, July 26-28. I am continuing my digital art series concentrating on photos and images from the Pointe-au-Baril, Georgian Bay area.

This year I went ‘birdy’ and included our fine feathered friends in a few of my fine art prints.

This is a superb show and if you are in the Pointe-au-Baril area grab a water taxi and get yourself over to the show. There are a host of wonderful artists representing the Bay through oil, acrylics, water paintings, photography, wood sculptors, jewelry makers and more. For more information please click HERE.

Georgian Bay – Photo Art Series 2013

Empress ChannelSeems like it was only yesterday when I was working on my Georgian Bay photo art series for the 2012 annual Ojibway Art Show.

I once again visited ‘Empress Channel’ what is hands down my favourite place in Pointe-au-Baril this spring. A combination of the white washed rocks, rugged coastline, lonely pine trees, and the treacherous shoal laden clear blue waters give this area the most unique feel of northern portion of The Parry Sound Archipelago.

My hopes, through my photography and photo art, is to show the natural beauty of the area. Building on my previous years theme I take an original photo that I took the previous cottage season and manipulate it into a digital painting. Through painting I am able to add movement and depth into my photographs thus moving my two dimensional photo into a more vivid and dynamic one.

For this particular image, much like a painter with oils or acrylic, I took away a few bushes and pine trees to better isolate the tree. I took this photo in early spring when the leaves had just started coming out. The bright greens against the blue sky, cool blue waters and white rock remain a vivid memory. I feel I have captured ‘Empress Channel’ the way I remember it with the above image.

All my prints are for sale. They are Museum Quality, and Giclée printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art Papers. Prints are signed and sold in limited quantities. As always, please feel free to email me with comments or questions. Thank you for looking and taking the time to go through my website.

Ojibway Art Show 2012

Matthew’s Bay is found in Pointe-au-Baril, Ontario. I took this picture in 2011 as I scouted around the area for photos to digitally paint over the winter in preparation for the 2012 Annual Art Show at the Ojibway Club, Pointe-au-Baril (PaB).

The show runs this weekend Friday-Sunday and features artists in and around the Georgian Bay, with a focus on PaB.

I have five new pieces showing this year. If you are in the area drop by. And don’t forget to introduce yourself. I’ll be hanging around a bit at the show and volunteering my time  on Sunday from 10am to noon. Hope to see you there!

Summer Art Shows

Been busy with kids, and taking pictures of moto events on most weekends. However, this does not mean that I have been ignoring my fine art side. I have just finished showing six of my pieces at a Toronto Library Location for the month of May. This is the same show that I will be exhibiting at the Ojibway this August. I will be continuing with landscape from the Georgian Bay area in and around our cottage on Pointe-au-Baril, and presenting the photos as a digital painting. Thus, building on my success from last years show.

I am hoping to be able to go to the cottage more often once school is finished. That will also give me more time to take some more pictures to allow me to work on pieces for next years show. Yes…I start looking at least one year in advance for suitable landscape and opportunities.

Thanks for reading and hope to see you at the Ojibway.
